Inlays sit on the inside of the cusps of a tooth while the onlay sits on the very top of the tooth’s crown. They’re smaller in size when compared to a full dental crown.

You’re a good candidate for onlays and inlays if you need a restoration that offers stability, security and durability. Some patients prefer inlays and onlays when compared to fillings because of how long-lasting they are when placed over the tooth. By placing an onlay or inlay, you can still retain the structure of the entire tooth without compromising it during the dental crown procedure.
What Happens During the Procedure for Inlays and Onlays?
We work to first administer a local anesthetic to the area being treated. We remove all decay and old filling from the tooth and then take impressions. The impressions will be used to create the brand new inlay or onlay for you. You’ll then come back in for a second appointment to have the new restoration placed. We’ll adjust the fit and bite and you’ll be ready to leave the office loving the way that your smile looks.
