What Are Dental Exams & Cleanings?

A dental exam is meant to check for signs of cavities, intra-oral problems, oral cancer and loose restorations. The cleaning is performed by a hygienist to remove tartar, stains and to check the health of your gums. Both exams and cleanings are crucial parts of your preventative care and can help to keep your mouth healthy and clean. We offer cleanings and exams to all patients of varying ages and physical needs.

Why Are Dental Exams & Cleanings Needed?

Both exams and cleanings are needed to keep your teeth and mouth healthy. Regardless of how long it’s been since your last appointment, we welcome you into our office to begin receiving the care that you deserve. Exams help to spot issues early on so that treatment is easier and more effective. Cleanings can help to prevent certain conditions from occurring in the first place, like gingivitis and gum disease.

What Makes You a Good Candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?

Every member of your family is a good candidate for professional exams and cleanings. In fact, it’s a good idea to start kids off right by bringing them into the office as early on in life as possible. We recommend having exams and cleanings done twice a year to keep up with the health of your teeth and gums. The appointments are easy and take about an hour in our office to complete.

What Happens During Dental Exams & Cleanings?

We often start the appointment by taking x-rays of your teeth. The hygienist will then begin cleaning your teeth using special tools and instruments. The gums are then checked for signs of gingivitis and gum disease, and we can provide treatment as needed. Our doctor then comes in and performs an exam. Our goal is to check for cavities, loose or broken restorations, cracked teeth, fractures and even oral cancer. The appointment is quick and we can pre-schedule you to come back in another six months for another exam and cleaning.
